James Clifford Ivy. I remember him as an amazing Wrestler, a good friend. Served his country as a Marine. He was an amazing Man, we have so many funny stories and memories. Cliff passed on June 14th. He will be truly missed.

Sorry to hear about Cliff. We’ve been trying to contact him for weeks. I only remember him as one of the most amazing high school wrestlers that I had ever seen. He seemed to hold an unfair advantage over every opponent that he faced.

You are right about that Jim, Cliff did seem to have a unfair advantage over his apponent, a big reason was Joe Seay . I know you like old sports stories so I’ll give you one and I’ve told this at least 100 times . I remember Cliff’s Dad Joe Ivey taking us to wrestling matches at South before we could  drive. He wanted to wrestle!  As a matter of fact he liked to fight. Anyway I had Joe for my PE class, Cliff had another teacher but at the same time, I didn’t necessarily want to wrestle on the team but I had strong upper body and legs and beat just about anyone in Joe’s class one day Joe said he wanted to see me in the wrestling room, I thought I’d done something wrong but when he opened the door there stood Cliff, and Joe said that Cliff wanted to be on the team and that he wanted us to go hard until he said stop . Well I pinned Cliff in about 40 seconds. And when got up Joe was focused on Cliff an he was telling him a big part of wrestling was technique. So 3 weeks later same thing, Joe has us in the wrestling room and I thought the same thing was going to happen. But No! He damn near killed me . He was a great person to be around, you never knew what was going to happen next.

Great story. Tells you something about Joe Seay, too.

All the above is true. But does anyone else remember his 57 Plymouth? The big finned one.
His cousin lived near me. He would come by. Cliff had the car set so he could lock the front brakes with out locking the rear.
He would lite up those tires with that Hemi and give a show Harvick would be proud of.

I so appreciate reading these memories. As a kid from Southgate Drive it makes me happy to know about Clifford’s service and tenacity. God bless him and his loved ones.

Cliff always met me with a smile and laughter. I considered him a friend. To know he died on my birthday is something that will help me remember him often.

Hey Gary-I remember the Plymouth very well, complete with smoking tires! Had never thought of him as a "car guy" but that machine proved me wrong. I also remember when he wrestled, particularly in the beginning, his opponents seemed to underestimate his abilities, but after being placed on their backs mere seconds into the match they would have the rest of the night to rethink.

I don't believe I knew Cliff Ivey, however, these stories are heart warming and it is clear how much people thought of him. God Bless his memory and his family. Cliff evidently lived his life well.
