Kathy Smith

KATHLEEN JEANETTE SMITH

March 9, 1950  August 2, 2022

Kathy Smith passed away on August 2, 2022, in her home surrounded by loved one's after years of battling multiple medical issues.

A resident of Bakersfield, Kathy was born in Los Angeles on March 9, 1950 to the late Geneva and James Smith. She graduated South Bakersfield High School in Spring of 1968, where she managed to leave an impression with fellow classmates they would talk about for decades to come. Even though Kathy was the child of a Deputy, it did not stop her from enjoying her wild years. Known for her incredible sense of humor she lit up any room she entered.

Kathy worked for the County Welfare office before finding her niche with the United States Postal Service where she worked past retirement until her illnesses prevented her continuing. All the great people that she met while working there made it quite difficult for her to ever leave.

Kathy is preceded in death by her Mother and Father (Geneva and James Smith), her sister Sheryl Douglas, and her brother James Smith.

She is survived by her daughter Melissa Clark, son-in-law Joseph Clark, and granddaughters Maelie and Beatrix Clark.

We are celebrating the Life and Memories of Kathy Smith at Doughty Calhoun O'Meara @ 1100 Truxton Ave, Bakersfield Ca 93301. Wednesday August 10th at 10am.

Kathy Smith was unique.  There was no other person in our class even remotely like her.

Absolutely one of my favorites of all time.

Many of those who stayed in Bakersfield likely remember her from her work at the Post Office down past the old Larson's Dairy on Planz Rd.

Incredible smile.  Mike Martin, editor of the Merrimac, featured Kathy on his "let there be light" theme page.

Part of that light was Kathy's smile.

What a great best friend to help each other get through the trials of High School together.  So much fun, and adventures together.  Rest in peace friend.
